World Geography: Mountains in France (Map)

The Alps and the Pyrenees are the two most important mountain ranges of France. The highest peak is the Mont Blanc [The Alps (French: Les Alpes)], which is 4808 metres above sea level.

  • The Alps (Les Alpes), to the east of France and on the Swiss, Italian borders. 
  • Massif-Central (416 metres), located in central France.
  • Jura (1718 metres), located in eastern France.
  • Morvan (901 meters), a granite area in central France.
  • Pyrenees (Les Pyrénéés), in the south of France and borders with Spain, stretching from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean costs. The highest peak is about 3404 metres.
  • The Vosges (1423 metres) are to the left of the Rhine valley in eastern France near the German border.
  • Corsica, the mountains of the island reach about 2706 metres.
