"United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" is the official title of the United Kingdom (UK). It  is located in Western Europe to the northwest of France and between the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.  It includes Great Britain (the formerly separate realms of England and Scotland, and the principality of Wales), Northern Ireland (also known as Ulster) and many smaller nearby islands including the Isle of Wight, Anglesey, Scilly, Orkney, Shetland, and Hebridean archipelagos. The UK has coastlines along the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the North Sea.  It occupies a total area of approximately 241,930 square kilometres (93,410 sq mi). The mainland areas lie between latitudes 49°N and 59°N, and longitudes 8°W to 2°E. The Royal Greenwich Observatory, in South East London, is the defining point of the Prime Meridian. London is i ts capital and the largest city.

The world's largest mountain range is the Andes, about 4,350 miles (7,000 km) long. The range stretches from north to south through seven countries in South America, along the west coast of the continent: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Aconcagua is the highest peak, at about 6,962 metres (22,841 feet).

The Alps and the Pyrenees are the two most important mountain ranges of France. The highest peak is the Mont Blanc [ The Alps (French: Les Alpes)] , which is 4808 metres above sea level. The Alps (Les Alpes), to the east of France and on the Swiss, Italian borders.  Massif-Central (416 metres), located in central France. Jura (1718 metres),  located in eastern France. Morvan (901 meters), a granite area in  central France. Pyrenees (Les Pyrénéés), in the south of France and borders with Spain, stretching from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean costs. The highest peak is about 3404 metres. The Vosges (1423 metres) are to the left of the Rhine valley in eastern France near the German border. Corsica, the mountains of the island reach about 2706 metres.
